Before we set out our strategy for 2026 – 2031, it is important to recognise the significant achievements and progress we made under our last five-year strategy (2021 – 2026).
We further strengthened cancer services, improved performance and laid even stronger foundations for the next phase of delivery.
Key achievements include:
- Expanding our range of advanced clinical services, bringing CAR T-cell therapy to Cheshire and Merseyside for the first time.
- Opening a new Community Diagnostic Centre in an area of high deprivation to improve access and support earlier diagnosis.
- Significantly expanding commercial studies and ensuring more patients than ever could access clinical trials through our Research and Innovation Strategy.
- Strengthening system collaboration, including extending digital outreach to neighbouring trusts.
- Being rated one of the top hospitals in England in the National Inpatient Survey every year.
- Extensive workforce initiatives enhancing staff development, engagement and inclusive recruitment.
- Commissioning two new Halcyon linear accelerators (radiotherapy treatment units), benefiting patient experience and radiotherapy efficiency.
- Stronger performance against national cancer waiting time standards.
- Expanding the subsidiary model to enhance services and create savings for the NHS and the wider health system.
- Developing private income that we could reinvest in NHS care.
- Improving cancer outcomes across the system through hosted services including the Diagnostics Programme and Cancer Alliance.
- Maintaining financial stability and delivering productivity gains through service redesign, including patient-initiated follow-up and self-administration.
These achievements position us well to deliver an even more ambitious strategy for the future.
